Six cuts of primal stoner sludge, wizardlyly pumped thru your speakers. Recommended for actual wizards, stoners, JRR Tolkien headz and D&D playas. Throw in some trashy thrash and some psyched out space jams and you might get the picture. Heavy Heavy!!! You need this recording in your life.

The Green Room

Charlottesville, Virginia's appointed "hybrid-rock geniuses," Trees on Fire delivers airtight four-part harmonies supported by a unique blend of electronic and organic styles that gives rise to the term "organica." Formed in music school and honed through live performance and rehearsals in the deep woods, Trees on Fire spreads its original, innovative grooves and delivers its inspirational messages to thousands along the east coast. The group's debut CD, The Green Room (April 2007), captures the genre-bending cross pollination that takes place when this quintet comes together. This fine EP was recorded by Abel Okugawa out at Monkeyclaus.

Mark

Whack the metaphorical pinata with the Bucks and Gallants. Tight keyboard driven jams in the vein of some classic punk. Smilin´Tyler rants obtuse truisms and howls incoherent axioms over a thick wall of sonic madness, anchored with some precise left handed drumming.
Also recorded at Monkeyclaus.

Crossing

Holy Bear Crossing is the first official solo release from founding Hackensaw Boys member Robert St. Ours. Stripped down mountain folk anthems with immense power and cultivated tenderness. This record features mostly just voice and acoustic guitar. The songs sound classic and ageless, even when discussing very post-modern subjects such as the WTO riots in Seattle 1999. Recorded at Monkeyclaus. Essential!

Amat Victoria Curam

“Amat Victoria Curam” translates as “victory favors those who take pains”. Casa de Chihuahua, represents the vanguard of the new "street grass" revolution. Old school Mountain music composed and usually performed in urban environs, fueled by beer, and modern mind spaces. The Chihuahua's are a fierce live experience, and this recording conveys that potency flawlessly. Recorded in the Monkeyclaus studio, as the band returned to the Appalachian Mountains to send their revelations to tape.

KITESISAMONSTER / USAISAMUDBOY

Two 19 minute colab jams. The Kitesisamonster side is a tribute to Alice Coltrane and kinda sounds like her, for a minute. Kitesisamonster is a tribute to Alice Coltrane recorded at Monkeyclaus in October 2005. Colin on guitars and drones and percussion. Thom on drums and percussion. Kites provides noises and vocalizings. Wicked improv jams. Usaisamudboy was recorded on Presidents Day at TCB in Providence. The Usaisamudboy side is an hour of jams boiled down artistically by Mudboy into a concise edited faded piece. Droney, psychy, pretty cool sounding. 100 tape copies. Gone. Buy digital here.

Chasing The Form

Third full length release from Virginia's ethereal sound collective Ostinato. "Chasing the Form" shows two faces, like an A and B side of a record. The first half is filled with more energetic bombastic pieces, often highlighting bassist Jeremy Ramirez's whispered vocals. Side two begins in a similar way and fades into delicious rippling waves of psyche drenched drone. The entire album is a sonic voyage layering consistent vibes with unusual twists.

Any Day Now

Jose Maria's music is a fine example of Fado, a style of Portuguese folk music often characterized by somber themes and homesickness. Jose now lives in the Blue Ridge Mountains of Virgina, having also lived in France, Spain, Crete, Alaska (where he lived in a shack he built by hand) as well as Portugal, of course. Any Day Now, came to life with the help of Jose's friends, aka the Clich Fado Boys, and was recorded at our Monkeyclaus studio. Soulful grooves, a sincere, strong voice, and explorations outside of what one would expect from the traditional Fado experience make this an album of distinction.

Horsefang

Four wrathful, anthemic cuts of unruly stallion-core. All instrumental soundtracks for appeasing your shadow self. Sludge, doom, math metal from Virginia's most educated blue collar contingent. Recorded at Monkeyclaus, where PBR acted on the blokes more like PCP and delusional malice issued forth. For lovers of fantasy novels and cheap beer.

Speed Of Light

Alex Schein's first full-length album. "Speed of Light" was written, performed, and produced by Alex Schein. Much of the production work was done at Monkeyclaus Studios, collaborating with Abel Okugawa. Guest appearances by Mark Holmes (Like Yesterday), Deirdre Breeden, Dawah, and Alex Frampton Jost (IntuitionNYC) round out the full sound of this record. Conscious poetry with slammin' beats behind.
