#6: Skeletons and the Kings of All Cities

The latest in an on going series of invitational recording sessions, our Monkey Session with Brooklyn’s “Skeletons and Kings of All Cities” was all that we could have hoped it would be and more. Matt Mehlan, Tony Lowe, Jason McMahon, and Jonathon Leland are the core of the group and the totality of the touring “Skeletons” band for this springtime jaunt, which brought them our way. The tour is promoting their newly released album “Lucas”. Their publicity photo shows 15 or so gentlemen leisurely sprawling about some room. The band’s process seems to owe a lot to the offerings of friends and part time collaborators. Their recordings are textural and thick. Seeing the band perform live in Charlottesville, at the Bridge Progressive Arts space, and then hosting them, for a live studio session allowed for experiencing the band stripped down to its skeletal structure.
#5: Tanakh

Summoning the days of yore, Tanakh's Monkey Session was something which captured the true spirit of traveling musicians. The recording session showcased the resilience of the human spirit and the power found in turning duress into beauty. The Italian five-piece collective arrived to our studio road-weary and bleary-eyed at midnight, after a 14 hour drive from Bloomington, Indiana.
#4: Jackie-O Mother Fucker

On Sunday March 19th, the illustrious Jackie-O-Motherfucker from Portland hit the Monkeyclaus studio like the legendary Single Bullet Theory, hitting hard and defying expectations. Under the guidance of founding member and ringleader Tom Greenwood, JOMF participated in MonkeySession Number Four.
#3: Graboids

In the third Monkey Session, we invited GRABOIDS to come make our studio shake. These guys definitely prefer high volumes and love to experiment, even building and modifying many of their electronics and gizmos themselves. It is safe to say they found inspiration in the mountainous surrounding of the studio, as rain caressed the roof in a Twin Peaksy way. Blending noise with melody, GRABOIDS create a swirling vortex of their own devices.
#2: USAisaMonster & Kites
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Our astrologers hinted that our second Monkey Session with USAisaMONSTER & Kites might display sheer brilliance. The Load Records double-header was a mighty thing to behold. KITES left us dumbstruck with a 20 minute plus masterpiece. Also, learn the meaning of "Wohaw" in a brief interview with USAisaMONSTER...coming soon. The following new track by UIAM features the "most bitchin' use of a thumb piano by a punk band" grammy winner Thom Hohman.
#1: Grand Banks
Audio clip: Adobe Flash Player (version 9 or above) is required to play this audio clip. Download the latest version here. You also need to have JavaScript enabled in your browser.
Great longtime friends and brilliant sonic pioneers, Davis Salisbury and Tyler Magill of GRAND BANKS were the obvious choice for pioneering a new medium. Who else would rock a water-harp in our studio? Check out the cosmic sounds, striking video and hear their first interview as the enigma unravels.
