Audible Light Forms: Function Interview + Live Set

Explore Monkeyclaus

Led by Australian Buddhist nomad Matt Nicholson, Function is an ever changing musical collective who conjures lush and ethereal sound vibrations. The Function Ensemble converged at the Twisted Branch Tea Bazaar on (a cold Thursday evening, January 18th 2007) for a breath-taking live performance, as part of an lengthy quadruple show, along with Arbouretum (Thrill Jockey), Apothecary Hymns (Locust) and Insect Factory.

What began as a textural soundscape slowly rumbling beneath a hovering flute, transformed into a moving and curious folk experience. All the while projections of train rides flickered on the walls, reflected off mirrors creating magikal shadows of the audience about the space. Buildings flew past the windows, their sharp corners jutting towards us before turning to a mere smudge of light and speed. Mount Fuji stood glorious in the distance, like a great spirit, as if the soundtrack were patiently seeking to reach the top. The journey led us through foggy and enchanting paths away from the ordinary into to new lights. As the t

rack vanished into the mists, the ensemble of travelers stood before us, complete in the harmony they summoned.
